Perhaps the most popular kakanin (rice delicacy) during the Christmas holidays in the Philippines, puto bumbong is purple-colored rice that is steamed in bamboo tubes.
Puto bumbong is often served with shredded coconut and brown sugar (usually muscovado). Recently, butter and grated cheese have also become favorite toppings.
